New Country Manager Comes Up to Speed in Korea

Our client is the global leader in automotive safety. Among the world’s largest automotive suppliers and one of the top financial performers in the industry, They had 2012 sales of $16.4 billion. They supply 40 major vehicle manufactures and 250 nameplates. They have over 65,000 employees working in more than 185 locations in every vehicle-producing region worldwide. They wanted to identify a bi-lingual Korean to take on the role of marketing and sales director.

Challenge

In Korea, they manufacture manual and power rack and pinion steering gears for Japanese and Asian-American vehicles. They were expanding their business in Korea to compete with the competition of the Korean based suppliers for the huge Korean automotive manufacturing clients.

Action

We worked closely with the Branch President of the Korean operations who was from Malaysia. While he had many years of experience in the automotive industry this was his first experience managing a Korean operation. As a new leader in a foreign country identifying and assessing talent was a challenge he could not do on his own.
